A new adventure.

Planners have been a part of my life for several years now. They’ve helped ease my anxiety and keep me a little bit more organized all the while giving me an artistic outlet to create daily and weekly. It’s pretty cool to share this hobby with so many people all over the world!

A Melancholy Moose has always been the name I wanted to use for my artistic endeavors. Whether that’s blogging or something else.  Like all things in life,  A Melancholy Moose and myself have evolved and changed. I’m a big believer in following your joy and nurturing the small things that make you happy.  I previously made jewelry under this name but as that is no longer something that brings me joy, it was time to closed that chapter and start a new one. I plan on blogging here more (again) and have also started an Etsy store to share my passion for planning and stationery.  I hope you’ll continue to join me as I start a few fun new projects.

So, with that said, A Melancholy Moose is now on Etsy! I have been drawing up a storm, creating characters that are inspired by my world and favorite things. I’ve turned these drawings into themed sticker sets for planners. Of course cats play a big part in my illustrations and most of them are inspired by my little muse Lucky.

Don’t mind the messy coffee table, just look at those adorable crossed paws!

Part of my Pastel Kitties sticker kit. Can you see the likeness to Lucky?

I just opened shop a little while ago and only have a handful of listings, but I’m having so much fun creating new things. I’m trying to release a new set each week and will start posting about them here as well as on Instagram.

Desert bunnies kit in my Mambi Happy Planner

One of the hardest things about having a shop or business for me is the promotional aspect. I really don’t like advertising myself! I always feel pushy and am terrified that I’ll come off fake. So, I’m tying really hard to get more comfortable sharing. If you’d like to take a look at my store, you can check it out here.

It’s been lovely chatting here again, and I’ll be back soon!

Week 23: Matryoshka doll theme

I’ve been doing some planner shuffling lately.

One of the things that seems to coincide with planner addiction is always wanting to switch up your collection!

So this week I moved into my new purple personal Malden. I’ve been drooling over this particular type of Filofax for a while and last week was given the opportunity to trade for one!

I decorated week 23 with Matryoshka doll stickers, sticky notes and washi tape.

I love this “Bee Happy” yellow pen that I picked up this week from a local stationery store. It’s called The Seven Year Pen and comes in several different colors with really cute designs on them. Supposedly it contains enough ink for seven years of use!

My Malden set up. ^.^

On Sunday, Luke surprised me with these AWESOME signed post card prints by Kathie Olivas and Brandt Peters!  They are amazing artists and also own Stranger Factory, an art gallery in Nob Hill.

This card is going in the front of my planner as a dashboard. ^.^

Something else that happened this weekend…we are now caretakers of this little guy. He’s a great plains skink!  I think he looks like a little dinosaur.

Lucky wasn’t as excited about the newest household member as we were.

Week 22: Teal, glitter and bats

It was such a nice day today that I decided to decorate my planner outside on my patio table, under my favorite tree.

I’m a bit late in posting my new week layout due to the holiday weekend but here it is:

I used bat and skull patterned washi tape along with some sticky flags from Target.

The first half of the week has a bat book clip I made out of some left over scrapbook paper and a striped paperclip.

For the second half of the week, I added a raccoon clip from Kawaii Paperie and a cloud book clip that I made to go with the bat. ^.^

I embellished the pages with a few glittery teal hearts from a die cut pack by Heidi Swapp and some bat stickers leftover from Halloween.

Love this kawaii cloud pen!

Lucky likes to lay next to or on top of my Filofax when I’m taking pictures. Silly kitty!

Hope you had a great Memorial Day and weekend.

Week 20: Kiki’s Delivery Service

It’s a new week and that means it’s time to get out the washi tape and decorate some planner pages!

I’ve been in a Studio Ghibli mood lately, so this week is all about Kiki’s Delivery Service.

I decided to round the edges of my planner pages for a slightly different look.

Really loving the bunting banner washi tape from Michael’s and the Kate Spade Bow clips that I received in a RAK!

Lucky was too busy playing with his favorite toy to care much about helping today. ^.^

Can’t wait to decorate next weeks pages!

Thanks for stopping.

Totoro Theme for Week 19

I watched one of my all time favorite movies My Neighbor Totoro on Sunday and was inspired to decorate my planner pages for this week with him in mind.

I used cut outs of  Totoro and lots of washi tape, along with some hydration tracking stickers from MsWenduhh. I love these stickers she’s created, they’re a great way to keep track of your water intake.

Just print them out, cut to size, then run through a sticker maker and voila stickers!

 You can find them—> here

Lucky, as usual, helped. ^.^

Hello again,

My apologies for not keeping in touch better.

It really has been a long time hasn’t it?

I have so so many things to show and tell you.

My mind is overflowing with things I need to share.

How was your Christmas? Or better yet, did you enjoy Fall?

Lets catch up!

This summer I had the most deliciously bright petunias.

For those who are yearning for spring, I hope these brighten up your day!

Even though I don’t like the heat, especially how hot the summers are here in New Mexico, seeing these everyday made it more bearable.

Their colors were so bright!

Next spring I think I’ll add another table of them in my front yard.

However for now, I am loving Winter.

We don’t get much snow where I live. Hardly any at all.

So last week when my sister and I were able to enjoyed a ride through the mountains on a very snowy day it was quite a treat!

The cold months are my absolute favorite!

rocky canyon roads…

sun peeking through the snowy sky…

These tiny little birds played and played in the snow.

Diving in and out of it, like they were the happiest creatures on Earth!

That night I enjoyed some delicious chicken noodle soup the Boyo made for me!

…and warmed up next to this ever so sleepy little one.

Have you ever seen such a silly face?!

 …all bundled up and cozy.

Promise to visit more. Very soon!

Happy Winter greetings from a sweet sleeping Lucky and I!

A Melancholy Moose has an online store!

Hi all, It’s been longer than I wanted it to be since my last post. I’ve been busy busy taking pictures of jewelry and designing a store front for my creations. I’m happy to announce that I now have a full store on Storenvy!!
I also created a Twitter account and have a Facebook page for my things as well!
Here are a few of the new pieces I’ve listed in the shop:

The Iron Butterfly Necklace!

The glittery Ginger Moustache Necklace!

The Snow White inspired Candy Apple Ring.

and also the Pastel Sweet Heart Necklace.

There are a lot more items in the shop including more rings, necklaces and also some hair clips and brooches. I’ve made some more elaborate necklaces that will be up soon too. I’ve just got to figure out how to take proper pictures of them!
I’m very new to online selling and all the self promotion that it involves. It makes me feel so silly, as if I’m bragging. >.< Also, I'm trying to keep my prices as low as possible and shipping is only $2.oo for all US orders and $4.00 internationally.
Anywho, if you’re intersted, pop on over to my little shop and tell me what you think!

Oh and I mustn’t forget, my little monster. This is what he’s been doing while I’ve been writing this post. He’s pretty good at getting my attention!

Hope your day is full of smiles!
Much love from Lucky and I  ❤

Mirror, Mirror…

If there was ever a mirror…

A magical mirror…

That could tell you lovely tales….

 It would be this one!

Pounds of shiny, beautiful vintage jewelry cover every inch of its surface!

and would you believe I found it at the Thrift store for only 2.99?

I’m convinced if fell straight out of a fairy tale.

It’s the little things in life that bring the most happiness. What treasures have you found lately?

Lucky however, is more interested in sleeping than mirror gazing.
                                                                                                                                XoXo, Ashley

Recent Thrift Finds

Haven’t found a whole lot in the way of Pyrex or Fire King while thrifting lately. Guess the stores around here have caught on and started saving them for online selling. However I could just be missing the good stuff since I haven’t been out much.
Here’s my latest finds from a couple of weeks ago…
This Fire King casserole dish pattern is called Primrose! ^.^

Pyrex Town and Country oval divided serving dish and casserole dish

Some Woodland pattern Pyrex

The pattern of these two Fire King pieces is called Meadow Green. I love how they kinda look like alternating snowflakes and bouquets!

This big casserole dish is pretty special. My aunt sent it to me and it was originally my great grandmother Blanche Thurman’s! So neat to think that it has always been in our family. ^.^

Hopefully I’ll be able to hunt for more treasures soon. Even though I’m afraid I’m running out of room to put anything!

Here is a picture of my Lucky a day after we found him.
Sending out well wishes and happy thoughts to everyone!

Ps: My aunt has a very drool worthy blog called An Inspired Cook and if you like food, hers will defiantly make you hungry!

Vintage Bubblegum Happiness

Would ya look at this pretty bubblegum pink suitcase?! Found it while out thrifting today.
It’s lined with light pink polka dots and matches my little train case of the same brand Royal Traveller.
Turns out it’s perfect for storing my vintage embroidered cloths and doilies!
The same lovely friend who gifted me the awesome Pyrex haul earlier this month also gave me these beautiful treasures!
Hand embroidered and crocheted…
They seem to fit perfectly in here. Colorful and happy!
I can’t wait to display them throughout our house.
…and look at this beautiful Dior handkerchief! So fancy! So elegant! Tee Hee!

Everything packed up like a pretty gift waiting to be opened a little later.

Wishing you a day full of happiness and cuteness from
